I was fortuitous enough to meet Peter one fair evening in the East Village several years ago and we struck up a conversation along with our friends. He is a cool dude and I immediately pegged him as being a "hapa." Fast forward to this website and I thought that his perspective on his own identity would be an excellent addition.
Peter said, "I mostly just identify as half Japanese but my grandma got married to my Japanese grandfather in China so we are technically mixed. I still say half Japanese though since I was disowned by that half of my family when I transitioned. I always get Hawaiian or Filipino when people guess but yea I just identify as that especially since my father took us to Japan a couple of times growing up but it has been more than a decade since I have been there. My other half is Puerto Rican!"
